Jim Fox

More than you probably wanted to know...
Sign:  Aquarius
Born:  Detroit, Michigan
Raised:  Louisville, Mississippi
Status: Married to my high school sweetheart, Missy. (We miraculously found each other again 18 years after graduating.)
Kids: 3 (Christian, Tyler, Clark)
Pets: 2 Chihuahuas (Cherrio and Cloe)
Previous jobs:  Night guy at WLSM (Louisville, MS in 89), Data Systems Tech in US Navy (89-95), Morning guy on Katfish 95 (96-98), KEKB (Grand Junction, CO) (99-00), Arrow 94.7 (00-01)

Got into radio to overcome shyness and stuttering.  I was very shy growing up, probably because of my stuttering problem.  I was tired of seeing others in the limelight and having fun.  A buddy of mine, Michael, had gotten into radio so I tried out.  Around that same time is when I became my high school mascot.  So, not only was I talking to hundreds of people on the radio; I had to perform in front of hundreds more at football games. Drastic ways to cure them, but no more problems.

I like:  Sunsets over the reservoir, mint-chocolate ice cream, cruisin on the jet skis.

I hate:  Traffic.  And realizing 5 miles down the road that the fast-food restaurant you just visited got your order wrong.

Weirdest thing about you:  I can wiggle my ears.

Fave Food:  Seaweed salad from Nagoya, Chick-Fil-A grilled chicken sandwich, Moms GIANT burritos

Fave Movie:  Swingers.  And any movie that features comic book heroes like Spiderman, X-Men, Superman, etc.  (I know, I'm a nerd sometimes.)

Fave song on Q 105.1:  Slip Away by Clarence Carter.  Everyone has gotten mad at me one time or another for cranking it as loud as I can in the studio.  It was once heard at the gas station all the way across the street from the radio station.  Ha.

Words to live by:  Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you.

Dreams Can Come True
Tuesday 01-18-2011 7:40am CT
Confucius said, "Find a job you enjoy, and you'll never work a day in your life." I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate - even dream jobs can be hard work, but, it does make life much easier when you are doing something you love.  However, many of us have decided to make their dream job a reality.  Tough economic times has inspired people throughout the country to abandon their traditional jobs and pursue careers they’ve always been interested in exploring. Though it may seem risky, it’s not uncommon.  According to survey data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average person born between 1957 and 1964 held 11 different jobs between the ages of 18 and 44.  While recessions have caused some people to enter a new career out of necessity, plenty of others simply decided it was time to do what they’d always dreamed of doing.  One real estate agent swapped house tours for food tours when she started a food-focused walking tour company in California.  Another professional left his law career in Washington, DC to pursue stand-up comedy.  And still another business consultant tried her hand at jewelry design.  Guess it’s never too late to run away and join the circus, after all!

Your New Zodiac Sign
Friday 01-14-2011 7:14am CT
I don't follow astrology, but it you do... early last week I told you that what you think may be your zodiac probably isn't. The old zodiac chart is based upon the movement of the sun through the constellations of 2500 years ago. Today, due to shifts in the earth's rotation and orbit, the sun moves through 13 constellations, not just 12. The thirteen constellation is called Ophiuchus, and suddenly he's become a very hot search term on the Internet.

The new zodiac:

  • Capricorn: Jan 20 - Feb 16
  • Aquarius: Feb 16 - Mar 11
  • Pisces: Mar 11 - Apr 18
  • Aries: Apr 18 - May 13
  • Taurus: May 13 - Jun 21
  • Gemini: Jun 21 - Jul 20
  • Cancer: Jul 20 - Aug 10
  • Leo: Aug 10 - Sept 16
  • Virgo: Sept 16 - Oct 30
  • Libra: Oct 30 - Nov 23
  • Scorpio: Nov 23 - Nov 29
  • Ophiuchus: Nov 29 - Dec 17
  • Sagittarius: Dec 17 - Jan 20

Wikipedia has a slightly different calendar for 2011:

  • Aries: Apr 19 - May 14
  • Taurus: May 14 - Jun 21
  • Gemini: Jun 21 - Jul 21
  • Cancer: Jul 21 - Aug 11
  • Leo: Aug 11 - Sept 17
  • Virgo: Sept 17 - Oct 31
  • Libra: Oct 31 - Nov 21
  • Scorpio: Nov 21 - Nov 30
  • Ophiuchus: Nov 30 - Dec 18
  • Sagittarius: Dec 18 - Jan 21
  • Capricorn: Jan 21 - Feb 17
  • Aquarius: Feb 17 - Mar 12
  • Pisces: Mar 12 - Apr 19

One Word New Year's Resolution
Monday 01-03-2011 8:07am CT

Ok.  I admit it.  I've made a new years resolution only to "forget" it within weeks of making it.  Why do we lie to ourselves?  So, this year I ran across this article and found it very interesting.  I'm on board and so far, it's been great.  My word for 2011 is "engage".  There are so many distracting things in life.  So this year, I will engage efforts to lessen distractions and remove clutter in my life.  I will engage my marriage and family more than I have.  I will engage in learning.  I will engage myself to exercising more.  I will engage in having fun and enjoying that fun more.  Whatever it is, I will engage it with fullness.  Your one word resolution may be different.  But try choosing one and let that be the theme for your year.  So far my resolution has been fulfilled, more than once.  And knowing that is a great feeling.  I hope you have a wonderful and engaging 2011.  Jim

I was thrilled to get an iPad from Santa this year (Thanks Santa!).  Since then, I've been searching around iTunes for cool apps.  I came across this one.  We don't have a cat, but if you do and Santa got you an iPad as well, check it out...
